Reflection

A day in my life at the University of Oxford

Since starting at Oxford this October, I have found the college community so welcoming and lovely! My friends around me have not only made this transition to university life much smoother and more enjoyable for me, but they also continuously inspire me with their diverse opinions and knowledge about a wide range of topics, especially ones that I am less familiar with.

My first module in Psychology was “developmental psychology”, where I have been learning about the developmental changes and complex cognitive processes that explain how infants and children acquire knowledge about objects, faces and languages. In Linguistics, I have been attending introductory courses covering various fields of the discipline, including Phonetics and Phonology, Morphology, Syntax and Historical linguistics. These have definitely provided me with a much stronger foundational understanding of this field, although I look forward to specialising and delving deeper into specific areas later in my course!

I have also attended several society events, including events hosted by Oxford’s Asia-Pacific Society, and tried new activities, like Ballroom and Latin dancing with friends. Now that I have settled into Oxford, I am excited for next term, and I can’t wait to continue my studies, get more involved in societies that align with my passions, and hopefully attend some of the amazing Oxford Union debates that the university holds too!
